Online Travel Planners…

So they’re a bit of an addiction for me, these new online travel planners. Places such as Yahoo! trips, Travbuddy, Where I’ve Been, etc. are great ways to while away hours upon hours posting potential or past trips. Add photos, places to eat, great destinations, sights to see… you get the idea.
But I’m wondering, do people use these tools to actually plan their trips? When it comes down to it, I just don’t. I prefer to do actual trip planning (when I do do it) on a legal pad with a pen. If I’m traveling with Beloved, who likes things to be organized and such before we go, I’ll probably type it up and print it out for him. Overall I prefer by far to travel without a plan. Unfortunately this is also a quick way to spend far too much money. As in the infamous incident of British tour during the Queen’s Golden Aniversary Bank Holiday when I spent about $600 more than I expected. Or the notorious incident of Discovering Ireland had switched to the Euro and not told me. That one cost a full two times the expected price because the change in currency meant that I LOST money in the transfer, not gained it. Grrrrr.
Do you use online travel planners to work out your trips for you?
For that matter, do you use a real-life travel agent?

I found your site on google blog search and read a few of your other posts. Keep up the good work. Just added your RSS feed to my feed reader. Look forward to reading more from you.
