Where the wild things are…

Have you read that book? I have always been absolutely in love with that children’s book, and if you’ve never read “Where the Wild Things Are” stop reading this, go over to amazon.com and order it. You’ll thank me later.

But I digress. I wanted to say a few things about my recent infatuation with planning a trip to the Zoo. Or rather Zoos. I’ve become addicted to them, but mostly because I was spoiled while living in Chicago with the easily accessible (and free) Lincoln Park Zoo. I did so enjoy going there, especially during the holidays when they had their annual Zoo Lights festival and the Zoo was open at night. Now that we’re back in Los Angeles, I’ve set my sights on the local LA Zoo and the San Diego Zoo, Wild Animal Park, etc. Here’s my problem though, in Los Angeles nothing is free to the public! Perhaps that’s because there are these huge, long things called beaches, which are free, and which get most of the attention. And money.

My Zoo trip planning is going pretty well, all things considered. The LA zoo is right near our favorite night club, the Derby, so I’m working on getting a whole ‘LA’ day together to do with the hubby when our life gives us a day off together. San Diego, however will take a bit more doing. The San Diego Zoo is expensive, and what I really want to do, sleep overnight with the animals, is even more so. And not something to be done during the winter.

Being an Angeleno, I do want to give props to our local zoo. But the SD Wild Animal Park is amazing as well. (And light years better than Sea World.)

By the way, I’m sure you’ve discovered it, but right near the Derby is Farfalla, that has some of the best Italian food in the city…
