Ok, so this is bad. I just took this test (see results below) because I was inspired by A Traveler From The World of Work’s post about it, although I was shocked by the statistics regarding use of websites that he quotes. I guess I’m a bit of the stick in the mud, I was hoping I’d rate a little bit younger than this, I like to think of myself as ‘hip’ but I guess not. Then again, it does describe me well.
You Belong in the Baby Boomer Generation
|

You fit in best with people born between 1943 and 1960.
You are optimistic, rebellious, and even a little self centered.
You still believe that you will change the world.
You detest authority and rules. Deep down, you’re a non conformist.

What Generation Do You Belong In?
Ok, so here’s the question for you all to comment on - how old do you think I really am? A couple of hints: I’ve got a Master’s Degree, I’ve had multiple careers and I’m married (not a newlywed). We don’t have any children except our animals - read Aelou’s blog here. I’ll send something weird (how about homemade preserves?) to the winner. If there are multiple correct answers, I’ll draw a winner.

Ok, it’s not an official contest, but I always am a sucker for cute posts. I was all set up to award it to KEWP for her adorable newborn pictures at kewp.blogspot.com but then I made my weekly pilgrimage to No Impact Man. He knows someone who works with someone or something but he got some ADORABLE photos of a newborn baby polar bear that won this week’s AWWWWW award.
Speaking of which, I know it’s not related to travel planning, but I do think that everyone owes it to the environment we enjoy to check out his challenge at No Impact Man. I wish I had his strength to get my family to do that…

It seems like all my favorite blogs are coming to an end, with the exception of Dave over at Go Backpacking.com. He’s just headed to Bali and into his 4th month of RTW travel. Wonderful pictures & writing coming from following him, plus he loves weird food as much as I do which is making his foodie pictures very welcome as I cook my Meat and Potatoes for Beloved.
But my other new favorites- LL’s World Tour and No Impact Man are just coming to an end of their big ‘project’ time. This has both good and bad sides. LL just returned to the States and when she’s in Los Angeles in a few weeks we’re going to meet for coffee. That’s kind of like meeting a Rock Star for me. I couldn’t believe that she asked ME! I tried not to sound too desperate in my return email “REALLY??? CAN WE??? HOW SOON?? CAN I DO YOUR LAUNDRY FOR YOU???” That’s not desperate right? (ok, I did restrain myself, I didn’t actually offer to do her laundry.) In other news, No Impact Man is going to be becoming a book and a movie. The book in 2009 and I’m not sure about when for the movie. Should be interesting though, I was impressed with how living the past year has changed his prada-loving wife as far as not buying anything new.
But alas. I need another new favorite blog. I was particularly bummed as I only found No Impact and LL in the past month, right as their projects were winding down. So I’m on the prowl. Got any favorites I don’t have listed in my blogroll? Let me know! I’m looking for a blog that updates at least 5x a week cuz that’s how often I read.
Tim Patterson’s blog inspired me to dust off my bicycle panniers again. He’s biking around in South America and recently returned to Buenos Aires after a bout of homesickness and overworking himself. I’ve been reading a lot about Buenos Aires recently and I’m thinking it might need to go on this year’s destination plan. Once this year’s destination plan coincides with this year’s income plan. Which I hope will be in May/June but we’ll see.
Brave New Traveler and Daily Transit continue to be great regular reading. Also I’ve recently added Lives of Wander but due to the horrors of PhD studies their leave date has been postponed until fall! But this to will pass.
If my blog search were a personal add:

Will link love and blog about great articles and encourage more visitors if you are a good match. Possibilities for a long-term relationship are good, and blogs of all nationalities are welcome to apply although special consideration is given to US travelers.

Ok, so I don’t frequently shout to the heavens fellow blogger’s posts, but Brave New Traveler published a doozie this week. Tim’s article on Hostel Sex is not only well-written, it’s hilarious!
Check it out, it had me rolling on the floor this morning over my coffee. Bookmark BNT as well, they’re a great travel ezine, their ability to print this type of article is truly a testament to their cutting-edge and unique voice in an over-crowded marketplace.

One of the companies I work for, Kango.com, is about to go beta! Ok, so this might not be particularly exciting for you, but it is for me and for all of the team in the Palo Alto offices. Lucky buggers, out there in the beautiful Northern California weather. I stomp my snow-covered boots lovingly at them.
Ok, so back to the big announcement, Kango is going beta. Which is very, very, very exciting. Why? Because it is going to change the way you think about searching for your next trip. Kango is like a cross between Mahalo (the human-powered search engine), TripAdvisor (the travel review site), and StumbleUpon (the social networking tool). Actually, it isn’t ‘like’ that cross, it IS that cross. Their enormous database has pulled information from the far corners of the net to create a huge conglomeration of travel information and reviews. Then, like a big Sunday for us travel geeks, they top it off with the cherry of unusual search terms! Instead of having to search for what you want by location, you can search by ‘feeling.’
What does this mean for you and me? Ok, well for me it means my company is going live, which is very rewarding and exciting. For you though dear reader (and for me as well) it means you can now search for ‘family vacations or ‘romantic things to do in Los Angeles’ and come up with more than just Disney travel and The Rumba Room. No longer do you have to know what exactly it is that you want to do before you begin to search, you can search to get ideas of what to do.
It’s not beta yet but as the song goes “soon and very soon” it will be. In the meantime you can still use it! You just have to sign up for the pre-beta release. Tell ‘em Kango Suz sent you, they’ll be happy to have your feed back on their new site. See you round!
